Habitat For Humanity

This week I worked at Habitat in Tucson...I wanted to swing a hammer but ended up emptying trash (a humbling experience), providing parking lot security (my weight lifting is paying off!) and best of all, selling T-Shirts (I had people actually trying them on as if it were a retail store-haha)...as you can see there was a row of new units going up...this project is an entire city block. Some of the previous recipients are in there building homes for the new residents and we had a large group from the women's prison (wearing orange) we were not supposed to talk to them but by the time I knew the rule I already had one conversation under my belt. I am going back on 9/27 with a group from my office to work on our specific house, Lot 11. I was lucky enough to meet two of the residents, they were so nice and so grateful! If you ever get a chance to do this I highly recommend it!!

I was gearing up to do some Habitat work myself so I'm glad you posted this. We have two local chapters and they are pretty busy. Out here you don't see too many younger people doing it, so I want to get Malin involved. Why aren't you allowed to talk to the prisoners, how odd. Do they think you slip them secret codes or something?
